Methanol Defined
Methanol, or methyl alcohol or wood alcohol (CH3OH), a colorless, flammable liquid and the simplest Alcohol. Methanol is a fatal poison. Small internal doses, prolonged exposure of the skin to the liquid, or continued inhalation of the vapor may cause blindness. It can be obtained from wood, but now is made synthetically from the direct combination of hydrogen and carbon monoxide gases. Methanol is used to make Formaldehyde, as a solvent, and as an Antifreeze.

- Saudi rejects China methane dumping claims - The National Newspaper: The Chinese government announced late last month that it would investigate allegations that firms in four countries, including Saudi Arabia, had unfairly sold methanol, a common chemical, on the Chinese market at prices so low that they lost money on the shipments. The practice, called ?dumping?, is not protected by free-trade agreements. ?It should be noted that no protective fees are imposed on Saudi methanol and consultations are under way to refute arguments of dumping,? SABIC said in a statement to the Saudi stock market.
